Self-Catering & Pet Friendly Holiday Lets

Willowfield Riverside Cabin & The Barn at Willowfield

We are located in the countryside in Aghadowey, off the rural road between the towns of Coleraine & Ballymoney, convenient to the tourist trail of the beautiful North Coast and all it has to offer. We are also very close to facilities such as The Brown Trout Golf & Country Inn, Drumaheaglis Marina & Canoe Trail, forest walks and coffee shops and convenient to several activity centres such as Rose Park Farm at Ballymoney and The Lake at Kilrea for the more adventurous.

To all our guests

We hope you and your families are all very safe and well. We are so pleased to be able to welcome our guests (and fur babies) for a break, to enjoy the seclusion and peace of the cabin. We are also pleased to announce a new facility, The Barn at Willowfield, a larger self-contained accommodation, in a private setting opposite the house, self-catering, suitable for children and, of course, it too is pet friendly.

It’s important that you can book with confidence, so if you pay a deposit and wish to cancel your booking at ANY time, for ANY reason, between booking time right up to arrival date, your deposit will be refunded in full, or if you prefer, it can be held pending selection of new dates.

If you have any concerns or additional requests, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss these as we aim to ensure you have a really enjoyable and stress-free stay 🙂

Please also see important safety information at the bottom of this page.

Thank you, and hope you can visit soon, Julie 🙂

WILLOWFIELD, OUR HOME

At Willowfield, where we live with our pets, we pride ourselves in also providing a home for nature, and our aim is to encourage and enable others to experience and enjoy it for themselves. We are so lucky to have so many species of birds here, 57 at the last count, we want others to share in the joy they bring.

We are very fortunate that our grounds extend to the banks of the Aghadowey River (the ‘Wee Agivey’) that brings it’s own wildlife flowing through. So we have a wealth of wildlife, from the fish in the river, and birds like the kingfisher, dipper and assorted ducks and swans, to the hedgehogs, foxes, badgers, squirrels and even otters!

We have our own pet goats in residence in the paddock. We also have a wildlife pond full of life;  frogs, fish, dragonflies and damselflies, which are all very attractive to the local heron population, and the little islands in the middle of the pond have offered safe haven to ducks and their ducklings fleeing the fox!

Whether you come to enjoy the seclusion of Willowfield Riverside Cabin for a romantic break or a bit of bird & nature spotting, or stay at The Barn at Willowfield for a lovely family break, we hope we can help you relax and share in the joy of the animals, wild birds and nature around us all.

We Hope To See You Very Soon . . . . .

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

CORONAVIRUS

Our priority is for everyone to stay safe and well, so we have procedures in place for your safety and confidence, so you can truly relax and enjoy your stay. That means unfortunately we are unable to provide some of the items we used to, for example, books, CDs, games, telescope, food items, and our usual little extras and personal touches but we hope this will not detract from your experience. Bookings are taken on the understanding that government advice allows holiday-let rental and associated travel. You can book with confidence, as usual, as if you pay a deposit and wish to cancel your booking at ANY time, for ANY reason, between booking time right up to arrival date, or if the booking must be cancelled due to coronavirus or to follow government advice, your deposit will be refunded in full, or if you prefer, it can be held pending selection of new dates. Thank you for your understanding.

WATER SAFETY

The cabin is right on the bend of the Aghadowey River (also known as the ‘Wee Agivey) and adjacent to a large wildlife pond. Precautions should be taken around water to ensure your, and your pets’ safety. For example, do not cross over to the islands in the wildlife pond as the bridge can be very slippy!

BLUE-GREEN ALGAE

In recent years this has developed in some areas of NI waterways, particularly in summer after prolonged periods of hot dry weather. For example, in 2023 it originated in Lough Neagh, flowing down The Bann into the coastal waters and bathing was prohibited at some beaches. Luckily Willowfield is well upstream of The Bann. It can be toxic for people and animals alike, so be vigilant and heed warnings. Updated information can be found online at DAERA, on Facebook pages like ‘Dog Lovers NI’, and also, the ‘Bloomin’ Algae’ app is very helpful for reports.
